The Mitsubishi Triton 2.4 petrol is a tough old unit, but like any ute that’s copped years of trailer duty and servo pies, it has patterns.
Stick to proper servicing—especially timing and balance shaft belts every 90–100,000 km, fresh coolant, and genuine ignition bits—and most of these gremlins stay boring.
If it still shudders, overheats, or hunts at idle, get a compression test and a cooling-system pressure test before throwing parts; it’s cheaper than guessing.
Do that, and the 2.4 will keep soldiering on, even if it won’t win any drag races.
