mobile phone use cameras Page 8

Mobile phone detection cameras are high-mounted, AI-assisted busybodies spotting drivers who prefer doomscrolling to driving.

They use infrared and high‑resolution lenses to work day and night, flagging likely offences for a human reviewer to confirm.

Across Australia they’re being rolled out as fixed and trailer units; fines and demerit points vary by state, but they’re spicy enough to ruin brunch.

Hands‑free via a proper mount is generally fine; phone-in-hand, even stopped at lights, is usually not.

Short version: keep the phone parked and your wallet intact—save the scrolling for the driveway.
