Mobile speed cameras in Victoria are the bane of every lead-footed driver’s existence. Operated by the Victoria Police, these roving speed traps pop up unannounced to catch you exceeding the limit. They use radar and laser technology to clock your speed and snap a photo, usually resulting in a lovely fine landing in your mailbox. Locations vary daily, so the only surefire way to avoid a ticket is to obey the speed limit—novel idea, I know.

Fines can cost anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand AUD depending on how badly you’re pushing your luck. For the latest updates on their whereabouts, check local news bulletins or police announcements, but don't rely on luck alone. Remember, these cameras are less about revenue and more about saving lives, so keep that right foot light.
