In Victoria, a “mod plate” isn’t really a thing for light vehicles; what you need is a VASS (Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme) engineering approval. The process is simple-ish: get your mods assessed by an approved VASS engineer, they issue a VASS Certificate, and you lodge it with VicRoads so your car is legal and insurable. That little blue plate people talk about is a Queensland specialty, not a Victorian souvenir. Heavy vehicles can sit under national codes, but for normal road cars in Victoria it’s VASS paperwork that does the heavy lifting.
Speak to a VASS signatory before you start wrenching, keep every receipt, and confirm requirements with VicRoads for the latest rules.
