Schumann – Fantasy in C Major, Op. 17

Robert Schumann’s Fantasy in C Major, Op. 17 is one of the great masterpieces of the Romantic piano repertoire. Composed between 1836 and 1839, it was dedicated to Franz Liszt, who greatly admired Schumann’s music.

The three-movement work combines passionate expression, lyrical beauty and demanding pianistic writing. The first movement is particularly expansive and dramatic, while the second movement brings a powerful, march-like character before the deeply expressive third movement closes the work in an atmosphere of quiet reflection.
