mv gst limit 2023 Page 8

Chasing the motor-vehicle GST limit for 2023? In Australia, the max GST credit on a passenger car is capped at 1/11th of the ATO car limit. For 2022–23 the car limit was AUD 64,741 (so max GST credit about AUD 5,885), and for 2023–24 it’s AUD 68,108 (max credit about AUD 6,192). This applies to cars designed to carry less than 1 tonne and fewer than 9 passengers; heavy utes and vans generally aren’t capped. Luxury Car Tax thresholds are a separate circus entirely, so don’t mix those up with the GST cap. Consult official documentation for exact figures.
