my car broke down and wont turn on

Oh dear, the car’s decided to cosplay as a brick. Start with the basics: lights dim or dead usually screams battery, and crusty terminals can kill the party before it begins. If it cranks but won’t fire, think fuel or spark; if you get a single click and silence, the starter or its relay might be having a tea break.

• Flat battery or dead key fob battery (dim lights, rapid clicking).
• Loose or corroded battery terminals, or a dodgy earth strap.
• Starter motor/solenoid failure (single click, no crank).
• Gear selector/clutch switch not registering, or immobiliser tantrum.
• Blown main fuse or fuel pump relay.
• No fuel or failed fuel pump (cranks forever, no cough).

Try a jump-start, reseat the battery leads, check fuses, and make sure it’s in Park/Neutral (or clutch fully down). If it still sulks, call roadside assist or a mobile mechanic before you turn a cheap fix into an epic saga.
