Australia’s National Electric Vehicle Strategy (released April 2023) is the government’s finally-get-on-with-it plan to speed up EV uptake. The headline act is a new fuel efficiency standard (NVES) starting in 2025, nudging carmakers to sell cleaner cars instead of excuses. It also expands the charging network, standardises plugs and data, and pushes fleets—government and business—towards EVs. Federal sweeteners are modest (think FBT exemption for eligible EVs), while rebates and rego breaks mostly come from the states and territories. Net result: more EV choice, better charging coverage, and fewer thirsty utes cosplaying eco-warriors.
