Just bought a shiny new chariot in Queensland? Most dealers handle registration for you, bundling CTP insurance and vehicle registration duty into the drive-away price. Doing it yourself? You’ll need proof of identity and a QLD garaging address, the VIN/compliance details, choose a CTP insurer, and lodge the registration application. Costs typically include the registration fee (plus traffic improvement fee), CTP premium, number plate fee if plates are issued, and registration duty based on the dutiable value and engine type (EVs/low-emission cars may get concessions). A safety certificate isn’t required for a brand-new vehicle, but is for used/unregistered vehicles changing hands. You can usually pick 6 or 12 months, and once paid you’re legal to roll. For exact fees and forms, consult official documentation for exact figures.
