new road rules victoria Page 2

Ah, the ever-evolving dance of Victorian road rules—because drivers apparently need new ways to baffle themselves every year. The latest updates include lower speed limits in certain residential areas, increased fines for mobile phone use while driving, and new requirements for heavy vehicle drivers regarding rest periods. Speed limits have been reduced to 40 km/h in many school zones and some suburban streets, aiming to protect the fragile pedestrian species. Fines for distracted driving have been bumped up significantly, sometimes exceeding $500 plus demerit points.

Before you ragequit your car key, check official VicRoads publications or ServiceCentral for the complete, official, and mind-numbingly detailed list of these rules. Remember, ignorance of the law is no excuse—especially when your wallet’s the one that’ll suffer.
