NRMA inspections are the mechanical equivalent of a lie detector for used cars, minus the sweaty palms. A qualified technician typically comes to the vehicle, checks bodywork, engine, suspension and brakes, takes it for a road test, and may scan the ECU for stored faults. You get a written report (often with photos) flagging safety issues, wear, and likely costs so you’re not buying someone else’s deferred maintenance. It’s ideal for private sales where the only warranty is a charming smile and a dodgy air freshener. If the car’s modified, very old, or exotic, ask first—some items can be excluded or need special handling.
