In 2023, NSW offered a $3,000 rebate on new battery-electric cars with a dutiable value under $68,750, plus a stamp duty exemption for eligible EVs up to about $78,000.
It targeted private buyers registering in NSW (not used cars) and ran on a limited allocation—first in, best dressed.
The scheme was wound up for new orders from 1 January 2024, so 2023 purchasers who met the rules could claim, while latecomers had to miss out and mutter into their chargers.
Always check the contract’s dutiable value and the program’s fine print, because options and drive-away costs don’t count toward the threshold.
