There’s no such thing as an "international driving licence" in NSW; you’re after an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Visitors can drive in NSW on a valid overseas licence; if it isn’t in English, carry an IDP or an official translation, and always carry the original licence.
If you become a resident, you have 3 months to convert to a NSW licence—after that, your overseas one won’t cut it.
Local rules still apply, so know the speed limits, phones-down, and all that cheerful stuff.
If you’re a NSW resident heading overseas, get your IDP through your state motoring club (e.g., NRMA) before you jet off.
