In NSW, a “pink slip” (eSafety check) is required annually once your car is over 5 years old to renew registration. An Authorised Inspection Scheme station checks brakes, tyres, lights, windscreen/wipers, seatbelts, steering/suspension, leaks, rust, and that your plates and VIN are legit, then lodges the result electronically. If it fails, you typically get 14 days to fix issues and return for a free re-inspection. New vehicles in their first five rego years don’t need one; unregistered or significantly modified vehicles may need a blue slip instead. Keep the car road-legal—no bald tyres, no Christmas‑tree dash lights, and no windscreens cracked like dry riverbeds. Do that, and the inspector will wave you through faster than a servo pie cools down.
