NSW red-light cameras sit at busy intersections to catch drivers who enter after the signal has turned red. If you cross the stop line on green or amber and clear the junction, you’re fine; enter after it’s red and the camera has you bang to rights. Many are ‘red-light speed’ cameras, meaning they can also book you for speeding if you thunder through too quickly. Locations are publicly listed by Transport for NSW, and fines plus demerit points apply when an infringement is issued. You’ll usually receive clear photos and time stamps, and you can request image review if you reckon it wasn’t you. Bottom line: stop before the line when it’s red—it’s cheaper than a donation to state revenue and far safer.
