nsw stamp duty ev Page 318

In NSW, the EV stamp duty exemption ended on 1 January 2024, so battery‑electric cars now pay standard motor vehicle duty like everything else.

The current rates: 3% on dutiable value up to $45,000, then $1,350 + 5% of the amount over $45,000 for passenger vehicles.

Example time: a new EV priced at $70,000 cops duty of $2,600 ($1,350 + 5% of $25,000), while used EVs pay duty on their sale price/market value at the same rates.

Watch for other costs—LCT on pricier models, rego, CTP—and remember the proposed road‑user charge isn’t due until later.

Numbers shift with budgets, so double‑check with Service NSW before you hand over the shiny dollars. Consult official documentation for exact figures.
