number plate availability vic Page 164

In Victoria, plate availability is handled by VicRoads via the Vplates search—type your combo and you’ll see instantly if it’s free or already taken.

Standard-issue series are allocated at registration, but personalised and custom plates show real-time availability and pricing.

Offensive or confusing combos get blocked, and some formats (short plates, heritage styles) are restricted or cost extra.

If your dream text is gone, try a spacing tweak, add a digit, or pick a themed style—close enough usually is.

Plates can generally be retained, transferred, or remade within VIC, but interstate rules won’t play along.

For the final word, check with VicRoads/Vplates directly—no one argues with the people who print the plates.
