old caravan chassis numbers Page 653

On older caravans, the chassis number is usually stamped into the A‑frame/drawbar, often on the right‑hand rail near the coupling or on the top/outer face. You might also find it on a compliance/build plate near the door, inside the front boot, or in a cupboard if someone’s been creative. If it’s vanished under rust and paint, use degreaser, a gentle wire brush, and a chalk or pencil rubbing to tease the digits out—no angle grinders, unless you enjoy regret. Still no luck? Check old rego papers, insurer records, or past sale ads, which often quote the stamped number. Makers used quirky sequences, so photos posted to owner forums can help confirm what you’re seeing. When in doubt, get a licenced inspection before registration; it saves a world of Department-of-Please-Wait headaches.
