In Queensland, a Safety Certificate (the artist formerly known as a roadworthy) can’t be done “online”; the vehicle must be inspected by an Approved Inspection Station.
What you can do online is book a mobile AIS to come to you and later verify the certificate number on the Transport and Main Roads site.
You’ll need one when selling a registered vehicle, transferring rego to QLD, or re-registering an unregistered vehicle—no weaselling out there.
For private sellers it’s typically valid for 2 months or 2,000 km from issue, whichever comes first; dealers get a different window.
Fees are regulated, but expect something in the sub-$100 ballpark for light vehicles, plus any remedial work if your pride and joy flunks.
Book the inspection, fix what’s dodgy, get the e-certificate, and then list it somewhere nice—Tradingpost doesn’t mind a freshly roadworthy hero.
