Transitioning from a P1 to a P2 licence in Queensland means you've survived the rookie phase and are ready for the slightly less restrictive rules. P1 (red P plates) holders must drive for at least 12 months without any serious offences before upgrading to P2 (green P plates). Once on P2, you enjoy a longer probation period (up to 3 years total) with fewer restrictions, like a higher demerit point threshold and the ability to carry passengers at night. However, you still can't exceed 0.05 blood alcohol content or use a mobile phone while driving. For the full nitty-gritty, Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads is your best bet.
