In Queensland, you can get your P plates at 17, once you’ve met the learner requirements and passed the practical test.
For most drivers under 25, that first stage is P1, with red plates and a few extra strings attached.
If you’re 25 or older when you pass, you skip P1 and go straight to P2.
Under‑25s then progress from P1 to P2 before graduating to an open licence; over‑25s hold P2 and then upgrade.
Expect restrictions around passengers, alcohol, and late‑night antics, so save the 2 a.m. Macca’s convoy for later.
Rules change, so check Queensland’s transport authority for the latest before you book the test.
