p plate restrictions victoria Page 3

In Victoria, P‑plate restrictions are basically “be squeaky clean and don’t do silly tech stuff.” You must have zero BAC, display your plates clearly, and P‑platers aren’t allowed to use a mobile phone in any form while driving—no hands‑free, no Bluetooth, no cheeky taps at the lights.

If you’re on P1 and under 21, you can carry only one peer passenger aged 16 to under 22 (immediate family excepted). All probationary drivers are banned from high‑powered vehicles as defined by VicRoads (think V8s, performance‑modified cars, and high power‑to‑weight), unless you’ve got an exemption. There’s no special lower speed limit in Victoria—stick to the posted signs like everyone else, just with fewer bragging rights. Penalties jump quickly, so check your exact licence stage on VicRoads before you set off.
