Getting a “PayPal” SMS in Australia telling you to tap a panicky link? That’s not customer service; that’s a scammer in a hi-vis of lies.
Red flags: spoofed sender names, rushed deadlines, odd grammar, and links that don’t plainly lead to paypal.com.
Do not click—open the PayPal app yourself (or type the address), check your activity, and switch on 2FA while you’re there.
If you slipped, change your PayPal password, revoke unknown devices/sessions, alert your bank, and monitor transactions.
Report the message to PayPal and to Scamwatch, then delete it and block the sender.
Think of mystery links like puddles on a workshop floor: step around them and keep your socks dry.
