Queensland’s pedestrian rules are basically “don’t argue with a ton of steel and physics.” If you’re within 20 m of a marked crossing, use it, and only step off on the green man—never on a red or flashing red. Away from crossings, give way to vehicles and only cross when there’s a safe gap, not when the ute is close enough to share your lunch. If there’s no footpath, walk on the right-hand side of the road facing traffic and keep as far to the edge as you can. At intersections, cross by the shortest route and don’t loiter on the centre line like it’s a picnic spot. Eyes up, ears on, and you’ll get there without becoming a cautionary tale.
