Perth’s “eclipse 2023” was the 20 April 2023 hybrid solar eclipse, which gave the city a deep partial view while totality swept a narrow path up around Exmouth.

From Perth you saw roughly two‑thirds of the Sun obscured around late morning, enough to notice the daylight dim but not darken the sky.

Totality required being up in the Ningaloo/Exmouth region for about a minute of daytime night, complete with the Sun’s corona doing its party trick.

For next time: only view with proper solar filters—sunnies won’t cut it—and check local astronomy clubs for viewing gear and timings.
