petrol or diesel suv Page 2

Petrol or diesel SUV? It’s the classic sausage‑sizzle debate, and yes, everyone’s uncle is suddenly an engineer.

Petrol SUVs:

• Pros: generally quieter and smoother, cheaper to buy, better for short trips and city use, lower NOx/particulates.
• Cons: higher fuel consumption on highways and when towing, peak torque arrives higher in the revs.

Diesel SUVs:

• Pros: big low‑down torque for towing and touring, strong highway economy, long range between fills.
• Cons: DPF/AdBlue complexity, hates lots of short cold trips, servicing and fuel can cost more, and choices are shrinking in smaller SUVs.

Base it on your driving: mostly urban and light loads favours petrol; regular towing, long distances and outback work suit diesel.

Resale follows the use‑case too—tourers love diesel, city buyers often prefer petrol—so buy for the life you actually lead, not the one on Instagram.
