In Australia during 2023, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) quietly multiplied like rabbits with charging cables, led by crowd-pleasers like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and MG HS Plus EV, plus premium options from Volvo and BMW, and newcomers such as the Cupra Formentor VZe and Peugeot 3008 PHEV.
Expect typical EV-only range of 40–90 km and a home wallbox top-up in roughly 2–4 hours (model-dependent). Pricing ran from around AUD $45k for entry examples to well over AUD $130k for the fancy stuff. Most state rebates favoured full EVs, but an FBT break for eligible PHEVs on novated leases was in play until April 2025.
