pink lakes adelaide Page 131

Hunting for pink lakes near Adelaide? The most accessible is Lake Bumbunga at Lochiel, about 1.5–2 hours north via the Princes Highway, which turns bubblegum-hued when the salt and algae are in a particularly festive mood. Your best bet is hot, dry weather and bright sun; after rain the colour can fade, then return as water evaporates. Yes, Lake MacDonnell is famously vivid too, but it’s a marathon road trip on the far west coast rather than a cheeky afternoon jaunt. Stick to signed access points, don’t stomp the fragile salt crust, and remember nature doesn’t post on your schedule—bring patience and a hat.
