The Porsche 959 engine is a 2.85-litre, twin-turbo flat-six with water-cooled heads and an air-cooled block—proper Group B mad science for the road. In road trim it made about 331 kW and revved with a whoosh that startled accountants and pigeons alike. The architecture used DOHC, 24 valves and clever turbo control to keep lag semi-civilised (for the ’80s, anyway). Power fed a 6-speed manual and an all-wheel-drive system that was half wizardry, half stubbornness. Top speed hovered around 315–317 km/h, which is “goodbye licence” in any language. Consult official documentation for exact figures.
