In Queensland, the provisional (P1) test is where your L-plate career faces judgement day. If you’re under 25, you’ll need a recorded 100 hours of supervised driving (including 10 at night) and to pass the online Hazard Perception Test before you sit the practical. Over 25? No logbook hours required, but the Hazard Perception Test still applies, and practice isn’t optional if you enjoy passing. The on-road exam checks observation, gap selection, speed management, parking manoeuvres, and calm nerves when a pedestrian looks indecisive. Book through Transport and Main Roads, bring your licence, a roadworthy car with L plates, and proof your logbook’s approved if needed. Nail it and you’re on P1—with the usual restrictions and zero BAC—so save the victory doughnuts for the bakery, not the carpark.
