In Queensland, headlights are required at night or whenever you can’t clearly see a person or vehicle at about 100 metres.
High beam is fine on open roads, but dip within 200 metres of oncoming traffic and when you’re following another vehicle within 200 metres; brief flashes to warn of danger are allowed.
Fog lights are only for fog, mist, heavy rain, dust or smoke—switch them off when conditions improve.
Keep lights white or yellow, correctly aimed, clean, and working; blue/red lights are for emergency crews, not your weekend cruiser.
Daytime running lights are legal, but they don’t replace proper headlights at night.
When in doubt, the Queensland Road Rules align with the Australian Road Rules—check the official guidance before the fines do the talking.
