The quickest run is Perth → Great Eastern Hwy to Coolgardie/Norseman → Eyre Highway across the Nullarbor to Port Augusta → Dukes/Western Highway into Melbourne. It’s roughly 3,400 km and about 35–40 hours of wheel time if you keep stops brisk and your right foot sensible. Skip coastal detours, rotate drivers, and plan it over 3–4 days unless you fancy looking like a toasted apricot. Fuel can be 150–200 km between roadhouses, so top up early and check opening hours. Watch for wildlife at dawn/dusk, expect patchy mobile coverage, and carry water plus at least one good spare. Do that, and you’ll cross the Nullarbor quicker than a servo pie cools.
