radiator overheating

Radiator overheating? Pull over before you cook the head gasket and your wallet.

  • Low coolant or a leak: top up with the correct mix and fix the leak—radiator, hoses, or cap.
  • Thermostat stuck shut: engine heats up fast and stays that way; replace it.
  • Cooling fan not working: blown fuse, dead relay, dodgy fan motor, or a sulky temp sensor.
  • Blocked radiator or fins: inside clogged with gunk, outside full of bugs; flush and clean.

If it still runs hot, suspect a failing water pump or a head gasket—both need swift attention. Never crack the radiator cap when it’s hot; let it cool, then check levels or call a tow.
