receipt template for selling a car

Offloading your pride and joy? Keep it civil with a proper receipt—saves texts, tears, and the group chat. Include your contacts too, in case the handwriting leans… interpretive.

Your receipt should include:

  • Buyer & Seller: full names, addresses, and driver licence numbers.
  • Vehicle: make, model, year, colour, VIN, rego number, and odometer reading.
  • Price: total in AUD, any deposit, and payment method.
  • Date & time of sale, plus “sold as seen, no warranties implied” (unless you’ve promised otherwise).
  • Signatures for both parties (witness optional) and two copies—one each.

Snap a photo of the signed receipt and rego papers, then lodge the transfer with your state authority before the kettle boils.

Job done—clean handover, no courtroom drama.
