Want to do a rego check on a vehicle in Australia? Use your state or territory’s official lookup: Service NSW Rego Check, VicRoads Registration Enquiry, QLD Department of Transport and Main Roads (Check Registration Status), Service SA, WA’s DoTDirect, Transport Tasmania, Access Canberra, or NT MVR.
All you usually need is the number plate (sometimes the VIN) to see if it’s currently registered, the expiry date, and often the CTP/insurance status. If you’re buying, add a PPSR search to check for finance owing, written‑off history, and whether it’s reported stolen—cheap insurance against a very awkward phone call later. Do the check right before you pay, because rego status can change faster than a Sunday driver in the right lane. No links here, but a quick search of those names will get you to the official pages.
