In Australia you don’t “extend” rego so much as renew it through your state authority (Service NSW, VicRoads, TMR QLD, etc.). Most offer 3, 6 or 12‑month terms (varies by state), and you can usually renew online before it expires. You may need a roadworthy/eSafety inspection and current CTP/greenslip where required; the system won’t let you renew without them. Expired rego means you’re unregistered—fines, no insurance cover, and your pride taking an Uber—so don’t bank on any grace period. If you’ve already lapsed, some states let you back‑pay within a limited window; after that you may need a new registration. Check your renewal notice for exact steps and cut‑offs, then do the adult thing and set a reminder.
