rego km check Page 7

Doing a rego + km check? Sensible move—saves you from buying a pumpkin on wheels.

For rego, use your state’s online checker (Service NSW, VicRoads, TMR QLD, etc.) with the plate or VIN to confirm status, expiry, and conditions.

For the full story, grab a PPSR report (about $2); it shows finance owing, write-off/stolen records, and the VIN details.

To validate kilometres, match the odometer against logbook stamps and service invoices—dates and km should rise sensibly, no creative leaps.

Sanity check wear (pedals, wheel, seats), look for cluster tampering, and get a pre-purchase inspection—many workshops can scan ECU data for stored mileage.

If anything smells dodgy, walk away; there’s always another car and fewer headaches waiting on Tradingpost.
