First, run a fingernail across the scratch: if it doesn’t catch, a quick polish may fix it; if it does, you’re into touch-up territory. Wash and dry the panel, then use a proper scratch-remover or a medium-cut compound with a foam pad, working small areas and finishing with polish and wax. For deeper gouges, clean, lightly sand the edges, apply matching touch-up paint in thin coats, then clear coat and level with 2000–3000 grit before polishing. Avoid kitchen sponges and “magic” abrasives unless you fancy matte patches—use microfibre and keep pads clean. If it’s through to bare metal/plastic or spans multiple panels, get a quote; in Australia, mobile detailers can be cheaper than a full respray and far less swear-inducing.
