Grab the VIN (17 characters) or rego and run a PPSR search for about $2; you’ll get a certificate—keep it like the car’s report card. Then use the free VicRoads registration check to confirm rego and status, because trust is lovely but paperwork is lovelier. Make sure the seller’s name matches any finance/encumbrance info and that the VIN and engine number match the car—if not, jog on. Shopping on Tradingpost?
