reversing rules qld Page 23

Queensland’s reversing rules are blissfully simple: only reverse when it’s safe, and only as far as necessary—no scenic backing tours of the suburb. When reversing you must give way to every other road user—cars, bikes, and pedestrians—because you’re the one tiptoeing backwards into their lane. Keep a clear view; if you can’t see, stop and grab a spotter, because guessing isn’t a recognised driving technique.

Reversing from a driveway? Same deal—give way to anyone on the footpath and the road, and inch out slowly. Don’t treat cameras and sensors as gospel; they’re helpers, not shields against poor decisions. Keep it brief, keep it safe, and you’ll keep fines and insurance drama at arm’s length.
