Short answer: there’s no genuinely free REVS check in Victoria—REVS was replaced by the national PPSR, and that costs about $2.
You can do a free VicRoads rego lookup to see if a car’s currently registered, but it won’t tell you finance owing, written-off history, or if it’s reported stolen.
The PPSR certificate does all that, using the VIN, and it’s the bit of paper that actually protects your wallet.
So skip the “free” traps, spend the coin, and keep the tow truck and awkward phone calls out of your weekend.
If you’re hunting used cars on Tradingpost, run the PPSR before money changes hands—cheap insurance, literally.
