Tasmania is basically a giant driving playground with better coffee. For a scenic week, the Great Eastern Drive from Hobart through Freycinet to the Bay of Fires is about 200–300 km of beaches, oysters, and dangerously photogenic bends. If you’ve got longer, loop west via Strahan and Cradle Mountain to Launceston then back to Hobart—roughly 900–1,000 km, with more wombats than road signs. Short on time? Do the Tamar Valley wine circuit north of Launceston (60–120 km depending on detours) or head south for the Huon and Bruny combo (200–300 km plus ferry). Roads are good but narrow; expect rain, wildlife, and the odd campervan auditioning for a rolling chicane. Pack layers, book ahead in summer, and give yourself extra daylight for lookouts and bakery stops.
