road user charge victoria Page 9

As of October 2023, Victoria’s electric-vehicle road user charge was struck down by the High Court, so the state stopped billing EV and PHEV owners for it.

It used to be a per‑kilometre levy, but that’s now on ice, along with odometer submissions and penalties tied to it.

If you’ve seen talk of invoices or fines, they’re being unwound and the government has moved to process refunds or credits where applicable.

There’s no state-level road user charge running in Victoria today; any future scheme would likely be a national one, and it isn’t in place yet.

In short: keep your rego current, keep your receipts, and follow VicRoads guidance for the latest paperwork dance.

Yes, it’s boring bureaucracy—but at least you’re not paying per kilometre for the privilege of saving polar bears.
