road worthy certificate act Page 110

Ah, the Road Worthy Certificate (RWC) Act—Australia’s way of making sure your beloved rust bucket isn’t a death trap on wheels. This legislative framework mandates that vehicles must pass a stringent safety inspection before being registered or sold. The certificate confirms that the vehicle meets minimum safety standards, covering brakes, tyres, lights, steering, and more. Without it, good luck convincing the authorities you’re roadworthy.

Costs for obtaining an RWC typically range between $100 to $200 AUD, depending on the state and the vehicle’s condition. Think of it as a health check-up for your car, except the doctor is a grumpy mechanic who delights in finding every fault. For official details, consult your state’s transport department or ServiceCentral.
