road worthy certificate vic Page 4

In Victoria, a Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) proves a vehicle meets basic safety standards at the time of inspection—no more, no less.

You’ll need it to sell or transfer registration, and for re‑registration after a lapse; club permits and other edge cases have their own rules.

Only licensed vehicle testers approved by VicRoads can issue one, and they focus on safety items like tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, lights, windscreen, body rust and seatbelts.

It isn’t a full mechanical report, so it won’t guarantee your bargain won’t explode into a cloud of invoices next week.

The certificate is typically valid for 30 days from issue, and costs vary by tester—and yes, there can be re‑inspection fees if it fails.

Smart move: pair the RWC with an independent pre‑purchase inspection, then haggle with the confidence of a kangaroo on a trampoline.
