In South Australia there’s no routine “roadworthy certificate” for private car sales—shocking, I know, but true.
Unless the vehicle’s been defected, is coming from interstate, is heavily modified, or falls into special categories, you won’t be sent off for an inspection.
Sensible buyers still get a pre‑purchase inspection (RAA or a trusted mechanic) and run a PPSR check to ensure it’s not encumbered or written off.
Remember: unroadworthy is still illegal to drive, and fines don’t care that your mate said it was “mint”.
If you do need an inspection, SA uses identity/safety checks at authorised stations—book ahead and bring your paperwork.
