In Queensland, the so‑called “roadworthy” is a Safety Certificate, required when selling a registered vehicle, transferring registration, or re‑registering.
It must be issued by an Approved Inspection Station and displayed on the vehicle before you advertise or offer it for sale.
For private sellers it’s typically valid for 2 months or 2,000 km (whichever comes first); licensed dealers get 3 months or 1,000 km.
Cars, motorbikes and most light trailers/caravans are covered; unregistered vehicles don’t need one to sell, but they do to be registered.
Fail the check and you’ll get a fix‑list—rectify the gremlins and book a re‑inspection.
Think of it as the automotive hygiene check: not glamorous, occasionally confronting, always necessary.
