In South Australia, the magic number is 75 hours for L-platers under 25, with at least 15 hours at night—because kangaroos don’t keep office hours.
You’ll need to hold your learner’s permit for 12 months (if under 25), record your drives in a logbook or approved app, and be supervised by a qualified driver.
To graduate to P1, you must pass the Hazard Perception Test and either the VORT practical test or the CBT&A route—pick your flavour of stress.
If you’re 25 or over, the hour and 12‑month requirements don’t apply, but you still need to pass the tests like everyone else.
