If you’re hauling kids and groceries, pick quality touring tyres with strong wet grip and a load/speed rating that meets the door placard. Stick to reputable brands, check recent independent tests for braking in the wet, and avoid mystery rubber that’s cheaper than a pub parma. If you hit alpine roads, look for the 3PMSF snow symbol; otherwise a good all-season/touring pattern is your friend. Check the tyre’s age (DOT code) and aim for under 5–6 years, keep pressures spot-on, and rotate every 10,000 km. A shop that throws in free rotations or road-hazard cover is a bonus; squeaky tyres aren’t brave, they’re just undercooked.
