The Sarplaninac, also known as the Yugoslavian Shepherd Dog, is a rugged, large breed hailing from the Balkans, prized for guarding livestock in mountainous terrain. Height: typically 58-62 cm, Weight: around 30-45 kg. These dogs boast a thick double coat, perfect for harsh winters but a nightmare for those who dislike vacuuming. Known for their loyalty and protective nature, they’re not exactly cuddle puddles but excellent guardians.
Prices on PuppyList start from about $1000 AUD for pups, while older dogs can be found cheaper. They require firm training and plenty of space — apartment life is a no-go. For more detailed breed standards, do check the official breed clubs or ServiceCentral for care tips.
